Thanks Google!

A bit of a tongue in cheek response to Google's latest software announcement as coming hot off the press to for a second create a small bit of panic within those who work on similar projects.

The main OSS team that I participate in is Liquidsoap, we specialise in infallible radio stream generation via a scripting language. Over the past year I've been working on & off on any GUI projects & maintaining the Gentoo ebuilds.

So when Google announce a system which is identical to what you work your blood, sweat and tears on. It just makes anyone a bit nervous, but not to say what Google has done isn't fantastic.

Google have taken head on an industry which mirrors the mess that can be found in audio cable standards, everyone has their own take and a lot of the implementations are pretty ugly.

But after a look through the website, the software is not free. It's either an upgrade to those with compatible systems or you buy a server with the software on it. Nor is it web based, but since spending a lot of money is typically on par with the radio industry then it seems Google want a bit of that cash as they can't really put adwords on radio.... Though if there was a free version I'd bet it'll inject Adwords jingles between every two songs, however how they'd get the user feedback on what to advertise I'll leave to your own paranoia evil thoughts.
